Infrastructure Grant Awarded for Lewistown’s North Wayne Street, Announce Hershey, Corman
HARRISBURG – The Commonwealth Financing Authority today awarded $500,000 in grant money for streetscape improvements along North Wayne Street in Lewistown borough, according to Rep. John Hershey (R-Mifflin/Juniata/Franklin) and Sen. Jake Corman (R-Centre/Huntingdon/Mifflin/Juniata).

The Mifflin County Commissioners are planning to make improvements to the area around the courthouse, courthouse annex and the corrections facility. The project includes new curbs and sidewalks; new lighting; repaired stormwater drainage systems; new pavers; and additional trees, benches, picnic tables and trash receptacles.
“I’m so impressed the commissioners are taking on this big project that will enhance the look and feel of the heart of town. The people who work in and visit these facilities will benefit from improved pedestrian access,” Hershey said. “I appreciate that the financing authority recognized how worthwhile this project is for Mifflin County.”
“This grant represents a big step forward in making the courthouse and surrounding areas safer and more accessible for community residents,” Corman said. “I look forward to seeing this project completed in the near future, so the entire area is safer for both motorists and pedestrians.”
“The overall goal is to enhance and connect the county’s buildings and activities to the downtown businesses and amenities. This project allows better walkability and convenience, and it recognizes the importance of the county seat as an anchor for the local economy,” Commissioner Robert P. Postal said.
“Since joining Pennsylvania’s General Assembly, Rep. Hershey has consistently demonstrated that he understands how important these core projects are to the future economic vitality of the communities that receive them,” Commissioner Kevin P. Kodish said.
The grant funding was awarded from the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which is designed to encourage economic development and safe and reliable transportation systems.
